Things to know before you start heading
B. Times:
Colleges and Universities only count the time that you spend in class. The time that you spend doing homework or travelling to the colleges doesn't count.
You have two options Full-time or Part-time:
• FULL-TIME: On a full-time course you must attend for more than 21 hours a week.
• PART-TIME: On a part-time course you must attend for no more than 21 hours a week.

C. Personal Circumstances:
It is important for you to understand that the money available from Colleges and Universities is means-tested; the amount of money you get will depend on your circumstances. For example you will usually get more money if:
• You support yourself and a family
• You are a lone parent
• You have children
• You are young and support yourself
• Your parents have more than one child in college or University
• You have a disability
• You need extra support in learning

When you apply for funding, a College or University will evaluate your personal case through an application form. To make sure you get all the money that you need, it is important that you provide all the information required.

We hope the following pages will help you to find the best way to support yourself. Please remember that the Colleges and Universities have a finance department designed to help and support you.
